Cookbook Review: Double Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld

.

This weekend I decided to try one of my two cookbooks by Jessica Seinfeld, wife of Jerry Seinfeld.

If you do not know who Jerry Seinfeld is then GET. OUT.

Joking! ..But seriously…

ANYWAY! If you aren’t familiar with her methods, Ms. Seinfeld’s mission is to get children to eat more vegetable via purees that she sneakily puts into meals and desserts. I still struggle with liking veggies, so I thought I’d give it a try.
I went for her Balsamic Chicken Sanwich.

Obviously I can’t post the recipe here, but it DID call for half a cup of broccoli puree. And I hate broccoli.
Surprisingly I couldn’t taste it at all and it was delish!

.

I also made her brownies from the first cookbook, Deceptively Delicious. And while they tasted like reduced-fat brownies, I couldn’t taste the half cup of carrot and spinach purees, respectively.

One problem I had with the sandwiches, however, is that they were a bit of a pain to make.
That could be because I’m thinking of them as just sanwiches, but there seemed to be a lot of prepping and bringing to boil and reducing and covering, etc. I also had to add a bit more brown sugar than the recipe called for.

I’m sure that if using purees was a regular thing in your house, then you would have puree already at hand such as Jessica suggests.
I had to make mine prior to beginning the actual recipe.

Good news is, as I said before, it tasted great and I couldn’t even taste the broccoli which is fantastic.

So far, so good! I will for sure be using both of her cookbooks more often and reviewing the recipes.
